The former Bulgarian national team player Martin Petrov is the second guest on “My Story” – the joint production of Sportal.bg and Bulgarian Football Shirts. One of the most beloved Bulgarian players of the new millennium did not hide his emotions at being “reunited,” years later, with the shirts he wore throughout his illustrious career.

Bulgarian Football Shirts and Sportal.bg present their joint production, “My Story.” To share more about this new documentary series - and to reveal which legendary Bulgarian footballer will be its first featured guest - Milen Nikolov and Petar Gavrailov, the project’s creators whose mission is to preserve Bulgaria’s football heritage for future generations, joined Filip Drumchev in the Sportal.bg studio.

May 30, 1962. Chile. A landmark date and place in the annals of Bulgarian sports. The national football team is set to play its first-ever World Cup match. The game between Bulgaria and Argentina was scheduled to take place in the town of Valdivia, which, alas, history had destined for a very different fate. On May 22, 1960, at 15:11 local time, Valdivia became the epicenter of the strongest recorded earthquake in human history – a magnitude 9.6 on the Richter scale. The Pacific town, located about 700 km from the capital Santiago, was completely destroyed.

One of the co-founders of Bulgarian Football Shirts – Milen Nikolov – had the rare opportunity to visit three-time European Champion Cup winner Ari Haan. The former Ajax midfielder is one of the most iconic figures in Dutch football and a legend of the great Ajax team, which won everything possible in the early 1970s and “set the trend” on European pitches. What’s more, Haan had an emotional reunion with two of his emblematic kits – Ajax and the Netherlands – which he wore more than half a century ago.

More than half a century after the legendary clashes between CSKA “Septemvriysko Zname” and Panathinaikos in the European Champions Cup, a piece of history has returned home. True to their mission of preserving Bulgaria’s football heritage, the founders of Bulgarian Football Shirts acquired an extremely valuable and rare jersey of the legendary Petar Zhekov.

When you set out to conquer peaks, it’s clear that there can be no limit—and there shouldn’t be one—for you. No matter where you come from or where you’re headed. Yes, your path will inevitably wind through countless obstacles, but in the end, it will take you to the place you want to be. In fact, the seriousness of obstacles is a relative concept, highly individual, and entirely dependent on the person facing them. It’s no coincidence that we often admire—and secretly envy—children for their purity of spirit and unburdened minds, which allow them to see “beyond the horizon” and dream big. Some long, as kids, to become astronauts, others to step into the role of Batman, others of Superman, and so on, and so on…

Who doesn’t remember the legendary Jorge Campos? But how many know that the eccentric Mexican goalkeeper used to design and hand-paint his own jerseys? And that he refused to wear any kits other than those from his own brand, “ACA Sport,” named after his beloved Acapulco, where “The Little Parrot” spent his childhood?

I had kept this moment of sharing, this belated “thank you” for the moment when a great career came to an end. My first meeting with him was in September 2001 in Sofia, just a month after he had begun his glorious journey at Stamford Bridge following his transfer from West Ham. Later, on two more occasions over the next five years – in 2006 and 2011, also in Sofia – I had the chance to be close to him again, if only for a moment or two.

Erich Weiss came into the world on April 6, 1874, in Budapest, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Henry James Redknapp first cried out on March 2, 1947, in the heart of the United Kingdom – London. From an early age, Erich was captivated by tricks and illusions, dedicating his life to them. Having moved across the Atlantic with his parents as a child, he introduced himself to everyone in the New World as Harry. Henry was also obsessed with a special kind of magic – the kind that constantly kept him on the football pitch and still enthralls him today. Those close to him, whether by chance or not, called him… Harry.

On this day, August 15, a year ago, one of his greatest goal scorers – the incomparable Gerd Müller – joined the heavenly all-star team. In memory of the legendary “Bomber” of Bayern Munich and Germany, we present his jersey, part of our collection.
