The former Bulgarian International midfielder played full 90 minutes and swapped shirts after the game with Theo Lucius from the Dutch side. Shirts comes from his personal collection. In his rookie year with "The Red Devils", Marian Hristov won the German League title and to date he remains the only Bulgarian player to win the German Bundesliga. In the period 1997-2004, Hristov went on to score 30 goals in 181 games for the club. He was capped 45 times for the national team, scoring 4 goals, and was part of the squad at the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France (played in 2 games) as well as the 2004 European Championship in Portugal (played in 3 games).
