A penalty shootout drama against the host nation Denmark saw them knocked out from the tournament though. Kieft also played for his country at the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy and is a European champion from the 1988 European Championship in Germany. The central forward earned 43 caps for his country, scoring 11 goals. Kieft won the European title with PSV Eindhoven back in 1988 and the Eredivisie title with PSV and Ajax on 3 occasions each.
