The former Bulgarian International defender and bronze medalist from the 1994 FIFA World Cup went on to make 65 appearances for the German side in the period 1993-1996, scoring 2 goals. Houbchev was an integral part of Bulgaria's greatest success in football history - winning the bronze medals from the XV FIFA World Cup Finals, and appeared in all seven games. He earned 35 caps for the national team.
