The prestigious tournament is a well known stage and competition for emerging talents and rising starts from all over Europe and has been held annually for more than half a century. In the 1986 edition, the Bulgarian squad, led by Ivko Ganchev, Krasimir Balakov, Pavel Dochev, Ilian Kiryakov, Ivaylo Kirov, Emil Kostadinov, Lyuboslav Penev, Petar Mihtarski, Iliya Voinov, Dimitar Vasev, Antoni Zdravkov, Ivan Lardev, Aleksandar Masnilkov, Yordan Mitev, Plamen Petkov and Kiril Vangelov, successively defeated France Vichy, Belgium and the USSR to face the strong French team at the final, led by Laurent Blanc and Christophe Galtier, in the final. The only goal in the final was scored by Ilian Kiryakov.
