Bulgaria drew 0:0 in the opener to Paraguay to win their only point at the tournament. Emil Kostadinov scored the only goal for Bulgaria in the disastrous 6:1 loss to Spain. Shirt was gifted by the player. Iliev earned 34 caps for his country in the period 1991 - 2000, scoring 3 goals in total. He played in all three games at the 1998 FIFA World Cup. Iliev is 3 times champion of Bulgaria with Levski Sofia (1993, 1994, 1995) and two times lifted the Bulgarian League Cup (1992, 1994). He has also won the Portuguese League Cup with Benfica in 1996.
