Wales shirt worn by Gary Speed against Bulgaria in a European Qualifier (Euro'96). Game played in Sofia on March 29, 1995 and resulted in a 3:1 win for the Bulgarians. Shirt was swapped with Bulgaria's striker Yordan Lechkov who gave it to a friend from whom we acquired it. Shirt was originally in a long sleeves but those were intentionally cut by the person who owned it. It is important to note that Wales only wore this shirt 4 times which is versus Leyton Orient in which short sleeves were worn, and in their away games versus Bulgaria, Albania and Moldova. Gary Speed is one of the greatest legends of Welsh football, with his career spanning Leeds, Everton, Newcastle, Bolton and Sheffield United. With 535 appearances, Speed was the most capped player in the Premier League for a long time. Champion of the old First Division in its final season before it was transformed into the Premier League – 1991/1992. Between 1990 and 2004 he wore the Wales shirt, during which time he recorded 85 appearances and 7 goals. On 26 November 2011, the football world was shocked after learning the news that Speed had taken his own life at the age of just 42.
