


England shirt worn by Jamie Carragher in the 2010 FIFA World Cup group stage clash against USA. Game played in Rustenburg on June 12 and resulted in a 1:1 tie. Stevan Gerrard scored the opener in the 4th minute but Clint Dempsey equalized in the 40th. Carragher came on as a substitute to Ledley King in the 46th minute and was booked with yellow card. The Three Lions were not convincing in the group stage (1 win and 2 draws) but the real disappointment came in the Round of 16 where they were trashed by archrivals Germany (4:1). Shirt was personally gifted by Carragher to the British oncology society and was acquired from a charity auction. A one-club man, he was Liverpool's vice-captain for ten years, and is the club's second-longest serving player, making his 737th appearance for Liverpool on 19 May 2013. Carragher also holds the record for the most appearances in European competition for Liverpool with 149. Internationally, Carragher held the national record for most caps at under-21 level and earned his senior debut in 1999. He represented England at UEFA Euro 2004 and the 2006 FIFA World Cup, before announcing his retirement from international football in 2007. He did, however, temporarily come out of retirement in order to represent England at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, before retiring again with 38 senior England caps.
