The kit was signed by the entire team and was donated by Bala for an auction organized by the renowned local magazine Sport Bild. Years later, Bulgarian Football Shirts contacted the person who acquired it to buy it back and return it to Bulgaria. The last match of the great Bulgarian midfielder took place on May 24, 2003 at the Gottlieb-Daimler Stadium. The match ended in a 2:0 victory for the VfB, with Balakov receiving the honor of scoring from a penalty in his last match for the Die Schwaben. Stuttgart finished second in the Bundesliga and claimed a spot in the UEFA Champions League group stage. This kit is of exceptional historical and collector's value for the Bulgarian football, and the symbolism on it is far from only in the traces of use that still remain. Mud and blood, which are an excellent metaphor for the incredible perseverance, work ethics and attitude that one of the greatest Bulgarian football players has put in throughout his career. The Puma jersey, with Balakov's name on the back, was made in Bulgaria. The last match against Wolfsburg took place on the most beloved and revered Bulgarian holiday - that of our alphabet and letters - the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian alphabet, education and culture and of the Slavonic literature. The jersey itself is also remarkable by the four stars placed right above the crest, which go the four titles won by the Die Schwaben (Note: In 2007, VfB lifted their last Bundesliga title to date). What makes the shirt of this model unique is that the match against Wolfsburg and Krasimir Balakov's farewell game four days later are the only time in which Stuttgart puts four stars above the crest. In addition to that, having the shirt signed by the entire squad, staff and management makes it a unqiue piece of memorabilia not only for Bulgaria but of course also for VfB Stuttgart. The former Bulgarian International attacking midfielder spent 8 seasons at "Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion" and went on to make 298 appearances for the club, scoring 73 goals. Balakov won the DFB Pokal in 1997, reached the final of Cup Winners' Cup in 1998 and said farewell to his career at Stuttgart as Bundesliga runner-up (2003). He made 92 appearances for Bulgaria between 1988 and 2003 (one of the best totals in national history) and scored 16 goals. Balakov is a bronze medalist from the 1994 FIFA World Cup and was voted to the World Cup All-Star team.
