

























































































































Stuttgart shirt worn by Krasimir Balakov against Feyenord during the 1998/1998 UEFA Cup First Round first leg clash (1:3). Game played at "Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion" on September 15, 1998. Balakov played full 90 minutes and swapped shirts with Feyenord's captain Jean-Paul van Gastel after the game. The Germans completed a memorable come back in the second leg, beating the Rotterdamers 3:0 to advance to the next stage. Balakov scored the first goal in the 35th minute. However, Stuttgart were not so lucky in the Second round and were kicked out of the tournament by Clube Brugge after 4:3 on aggregate. The former Bulgarian International attacking midfielder spent 8 seasons at "Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion" and went on to make 298 appearances for the club, scoring 73 goals. Balakov won the DFB Pokal in 1997, reached the final of Cup Winners' Cup in 1998 and said farewell to his career at Stuttgart as Bundesliga runner-up (2003). He made 92 appearances for Bulgaria between 1988 and 2003 (one of the best totals in national history) and scored 16 goals. Balakov is a bronze medalist from the 1994 FIFA World Cup and was voted to the World Cup All-Star team.
