The former captain of the national team Kishishev earned 88 caps for his country, representing Bulgaria at Euro 96 and the 1998 FIFA World Cup. On 5 September 2009, he scored his first and only international goal in a World Cup qualifier against Montenegro, tying the scoring in the 4–1 home win.
