Bulgaria shirt worn by Emil Kostadinov against Greece (4:0) at the 1994 FIFA World Cup in USA. Game played at Soldier field in Chicago on June 26. This was Bulgaria's historic first win at the World Cup Finals in their sixth appearance at the Mundial. And it didn't just stop there. Bulgaria went all the way to the 3rd place match where "the lions" were awarded with the bronze medals - the greatest success in Bulgaria's football history. Kostadinov was a member of the national team from 1988 to 1998. He earned 70 caps in which he scored 27 goals. Kostadinov started his career in CSKA Sofia. There he formed a redoubtable trio with Hristo Stoichkov and Lyuboslav Penev in the late 1980s, helping the reds win three times the Bulgarian Championship title (1987, 1989, 1990), three times the Bulgarian Cup (1987, 1988, 1989) and reached the semi-final of the Cup Winners' Cup in 1989. Kostadinov then moved to Porto where he won three Championship titles (1992, 1993, 1995) and the League Cup on 2 occasions (1991, 1994). To date, he remains the only Bulgarian player to score a goal in a European final (against Bordeaux) which helped Bayern Munich lift the UEFA Cup in 1996.
